Roulette Sectors: Voisins, Tiers, Orphelins, and Zero

Sector bets, also called announced bets, are bets on groups of numbers that sit next to each other ON THE WHEEL, not on the table. They come from French roulette and are placed through a separate oval wheel diagram called the racetrack. Let's break down the four classic sectors and how it's convenient to track them in the statistics.

What Sector Bets Are

The numbers on a roulette wheel aren't arranged in order, so numbers that are neighbours on the wheel end up scattered across the table. Sector bets let you cover an entire zone of the wheel with a single bet. They're usually available through the racetrack - a diagram that mirrors the arrangement of numbers on the wheel.

Voisins du Zero (neighbours of zero)

The largest sector - 17 numbers around zero: 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25. On the wheel this is a continuous arc from 22 to 25, including zero (highlighted in blue on the diagram above). The bet covers a large zone and needs several chips, spread across splits and streets within the sector.

Tiers du Cylindre (a third of the wheel)

12 numbers on the side of the wheel opposite zero: 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, 33. Covered with six splits. Together with Voisins, these are the two main zones of the wheel.

Orphelins (orphans)

8 numbers that don't fall into Voisins or Tiers - they're effectively orphaned: 1, 20, 14, 31, 9 and 17, 34, 6. They sit in two small groups at the edges of those sectors (two blue groups at the top and bottom of the diagram).

Jeu Zero (the zero game)

A small sector right around zero - 7 numbers: 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15. This is a compact version of the zero-zone bet and a subset of Voisins.
