Hot and cold numbers are one of the most popular ways of looking at roulette statistics. Hot numbers are the ones that have come up more often than others recently; cold numbers are the ones that haven't come up in a while. Let's look at what this actually means, whether it helps you win, and how to track these numbers in the service.

What Hot and Cold Numbers Are

Hot numbers are numbers with an above-average hit frequency within a chosen observation window (for example, the last 100 or 200 spins). Cold numbers are ones that hit rarely, or not at all, within that same window. Sometimes cold numbers are defined as the ones with the longest non-appearance streak.

Why They Occur

Over a short run, numbers don't come up evenly - that's a normal feature of randomness, not a "tendency" of the wheel. Across 37 pockets over 100-200 spins, some numbers will statistically hit more often and some less. The more spins you look at, the closer the frequencies get to equal.

It's important to understand: the wheel has no memory. The fact that a number has been "cold" for 200 spins in a row doesn't raise or lower its chance on the next round - it's always 1 in 37. Hot and cold numbers describe the past, not predict the future.

How to Use This

Hot and cold numbers are an observation tool, not a winning system. Their real usefulness is this:

• seeing the current picture at a table over your chosen window (25, 50, 100, or more spins);
• tracking long non-appearance streaks by number, colour, dozen, and sector;
• structuring your own observations instead of relying on memory.

No pattern of hot or cold numbers changes the house edge. Any bet across the 37 pockets has the same probability, regardless of past streaks.
